Why Credit Cards Are Banned for UK Gambling

The UK rule, what you can use instead, and why it matters for harm reduction.

Since April 2020, UK-licensed gambling sites have been prohibited from accepting credit cards. This Gambling Commission rule aims to reduce harm from borrowing to gamble.

What you can use

Debit cards (Visa, Mastercard), e-wallets (PayPal, Skrill, Neteller), prepaid cards, and bank transfers are all permitted. Choose a method that suits how you want to deposit and withdraw.

Stay in control

Only gamble with money you can afford to lose. Never borrow to gamble. Use account limits and seek help if gambling becomes a problem. 18+.
